Kristie & Reese

The Reincarnation of Reese: Returning as Minnie

My journey with Reese began even before he was born. I was so excited to finally bring him home, and from the very beginning, he never left my side until the day he crossed the Rainbow Bridge on January 23, 2016.

When Reese was a little puppy, scared and unsure of the world, he slept beside me for comfort. By the time he was about 2 ½ years old, he began spending time down the shore with my mom and stepdad, Mike. Reese loved going for walks, riding in the truck, and spending time at the beach. I would take him along when I cleaned my grandmother’s house or when I visited the nursing home. Reese had his little routines—ice cream treats, eggs every morning—and he loved them just as much as he loved being with me.

Kristie and Reese MinnieReese was more than my companion; he was my life. When my mom had her stroke, he stayed by her side faithfully. He was always healthy and full of joy until last August, when I started noticing changes. From then on, I watched over him constantly.

He lived a full and happy life filled with love, from birthday cakes and Halloween costumes (which he probably didn’t love as much as I did!) to standing outside waiting for Santa to arrive on the firetruck. He adored children and was loved by everyone who met him. Even now, he still visits me in my dreams, reminding me of the unbreakable bond we share.

After Reese passed, I reached out to Susie for a reading. She confirmed what my heart already knew—that Reese would return to me. She told me he would come back as Minnie, and that I would pick her up in October. Those nine months of waiting were long, but worth every moment.

Kristie and Reese MinnieHere’s a picture of Minnie. I found Minnie on Craigslist, and the instant I saw her picture, I felt Reese shining through. On October 9, 2016, I drove to Philadelphia to meet her. The moment the woman got her out of the car, Minnie was wildly happy to see me—crying, jumping into my arms, as if she had been waiting for me all along. I cried too. Her birthday was July 9, 2016, and from that moment on, it was like Reese had never left.

When I brought Minnie home, she immediately went to the only toy of Reese’s that I had left, as if she remembered it. She knew the layout of the house, even though she was only 12 weeks old. Her mannerisms, her personality, her expressions—they were Reese in every way, only now she had returned as a girl. Even my nephew said, “OMG, that’s Reese,” when he saw her.

Not all reincarnations are exact mirrors, but in this case, Reese and Minnie are truly one and the same. Through her, I have my beloved Reese back, and my heart is full knowing our bond could never be broken—even by death.
